About Me

My name is Scott Hatfield, and I have dedicated my life to service, leadership, and making a lasting impact on my community.

When my wife and I moved to Herriman, I was working for the Utah Department of Corrections, and we wanted to be closer to our universities, Brigham Young University (BYU) and Utah Valley University (UVU). Now, after gaining valuable experience across various sectors, I have landed back at the Department of Corrections, committed to its mission and the vital work of public safety and rehabilitation.

Education & Professional Experience

I have always been passionate about understanding government, improving systems, and serving others. My academic journey includes:
πŸŽ“ Master of Public Administration (MPA) – Utah Valley University
πŸŽ“ B.S. in Political Science (Constitutional Studies Emphasis) – Utah Valley University (Including study abroad at Oxford University, Pembroke College)
πŸŽ“ A.S. in Humanities & Social Sciences – Utah Valley University

My career has spanned public works, healthcare, veterans affairs, constituency services, public safety, and corrections. I’ve worked with local, state, and federal agencies, always seeking ways to improve policies, systems, and opportunities for the people they serve. I also founded a non-profit organization for the Utah Trail, furthering my passion for conservation, outdoor access, and community projects.

Personal Life & Values

I am a husband and father, and my family is at the core of everything I do. In my free time, I love fishing, hiking, and backpacking, and I never miss a chance to watch a Real Salt Lake match. Utah’s natural beauty is one of the reasons I fell in love with this state, and I want to ensure future generations can enjoy it just as much.

I live by the values instilled in me through my military service and personal experiences:
βœ” Honor, Courage, and Commitment – The foundation of my time in the Navy.
βœ” Integrity, Transparency, and Dedication – My personal principles that guide how I work, lead, and serve.

I am someone who sees a problem and works to fix it, no matter how long it takes. Some say I work too hard, but I see that as a strength, not a flaw. I have an unwavering commitment to the projects I start and to the people I serve. I am always pushing to improve, innovate, and create solutions that benefit everyone.

This is who I am. This is what I stand for.
